I started going to the gym when I was 23 years old, after I completed university and gained a fulltime job. Being a newly graduated nurse and shift worker, my diet and exercise was nonexistent. Feeling unhappy with myself and super stressed from work, I decided to train at the gym and that’s where I fell in love with exercise and the way it made me feel.
My gym routine consisted of exercises I had found on social media and in articles. Although I worked hard, I eventually plateaued and stopped pushing myself. I was often very hesitant to increase the weight and workload and always trained alone. One day, I found myself at the gym, time poor and needing to get a workout done. I skipped my normal warm up, went straight into a strength exercise and injured my back.
My partner saw my uncertainty about strength training and recommended Movement Enhanced. Since then, Ben has helped me identify the flaws in my training, he helped me to correct my bad habits and regain my confidence in my training.
Before I started at Movement Enhanced, I would train 4-6 days a week at a commercial gym. My workouts generally consisted of 20 – 30 minutes of cardio before weight training. I trained mostly using leg and arm cable machines. I lacked the confidence to attempt key lifts such as the deadlift. My workouts became repetitive and I felt I wasn’t working towards my fitness goals.
Since starting my training at Movement Enhanced, my knowledge and perception of training has changed dramatically. I now understand the value of training, not only with a professional, but how important it is to perform any exercise with proper technique. Ben has corrected my form on my technique for many exercises and has helped me rehabilitate and change my body slowly to be stronger than ever.
Firstly, I love the supportive and social environment. I would go to the commercial gym and no one would know who I was or even what my name was. Now, when I arrive at Movement enhanced I am always greeted at the door, I can warm up and train with my friends and feel like part of a fitness family. Whenever someone is attempting a PB or is struggling on those few last reps, there’s always someone there to give you some motivation to smash it out. It’s a place I can not only de-stress and get fit, it's somewhere I feel welcome and want to be, even when my motivation levels are low.
Secondly, I love that I have a program a custom program personalised for me. As someone who is new to the process, I know that I am confidently training both hard and smart. As well as having a warm up and mobilisation component to my training session, I also have a workout mapped out for me that is both appropriate for my body and my fitness goals. Ben and his trainers are there to help you with anything you are struggling with and to assess your technique. They are always finding ways to help you achieve everything that you need to help progress efficiently through your program.
I always find myself telling people how much I love my training. I tell them about how great my program is and how much I look forward to my training, even showing them my progress videos. People often compliment me on how strong I’ve become, and generally the women I talk to are surprised that you can lift heavy and still be femininely shaped. A lot of the times I’ve mentioned I train at Movement Enhanced, I have people complimenting on how great it looks and I always have positive feedback to give them about my experience there, which makes me proud to be a member.
